Day 4 Morning - Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier

On cruises to Alaska, everyone wants to see glaciers!

On our Princess Alaska adventure, we went cruising through the Endicott Arm to the Dawes Glacier, just before arriving in Juneau. We arrived in the area around 6AM, so we had to set an alarm so we would get to experience the beauty. And we were so fortunate: the day was beautiful! Depending on the time of year you cruise, and how big your cruise ship is, will depend on how close you can get to a glacier while on the cruise ship. Our cruise ship did get as close as possible (depending on icebergs and weather visibility) to Dawes Glacier. Because of the size of the Majestic Princess, we had to turn around while still about 3-4 miles away from the glacier.

However. We had a clear view of the glacier due to the wonderful weather. (We heard later from the ship's Naturalist that he had been up the Endicott Arm 13 times and this was only the third time he was able to see the glacier from the turn-around point.)

During this trip the Naturist and Jeff Corwin were each on the bridge and carrying on an informative narrative that was delivered via the TVs in our suite.

Behind me is Dawes Gacier. The ship could only approach to within about three miles because of limitations due to channel width and depth. We were told that this was of of very few clear days when the glacier could be seen from the ship-turn-around point.
