Day 0 - Flying Into Seattle

Joyce's 80th birthday was in May and my 80th birthday will be in December, so we decided to embark on an 80th Birthday Cruise in August. Joyce did some research, and found an adventure from Princess Cruise lines that would meet our needs. The cruise was scheduled from Sunday, August 11 through Sunday, August 18. Because this was a special celebration, we upgraded our cabin to a suite, and we also bought a Princess Premier package, which provided for complimentary adult beverages, two specialty meals, specialty deserts, free WiFi, a photo package, reserve seating at the showcase theater presentations, access to a concierge lounge that was open 24 hours a day and included snacks such as shrimp cocktail and specialty cheeses, and access to a dining room especially for suite passengers. It also included prepaid gratuities - but we tipped anyway.

We booked a Delta Airlines direct flight leaving early Saturday morning with the plan of staying a night in Seattle just to make sure we could catch our boat. Joyce's daughter, Michelle, was good enough to take us to the airport, where we learned that the plane needed a routine part that had to be flown in from Atlanta, which delayed our departure by about two hours.

By arriving a day early in Seattle, we had planned on visiting at least two sites: the Fish Market, and the Space Needle, but due to our delayed arrival, we settled for just the Fish Market and got there by taxi. It should be noted that though our flight was late, Premier Airprt Shuttle got us to our hotel.

Hyatt at Olive 8 was a very nice hotel with a very friendly staff. A good selection.

The Fish Market was very good, and Joyce bought some Sockeye salmon there that was shipped to our house in Valrico. We ended the day by eating a nice meal at a nearby restaurant that featured seafood. Yumm.

Please note: Because this cruise was part of our 80th birthday celebration, we did some splurging. I have commented on many of the perks that we paid for. Please understand that we are not trying to show off or flaunt what we had or did.
