Cruise to Nassau and Visit to Orlando

December 1-3, 2016 (Carnival Valor)
4-6 December, 2016 (Rosen Inn Pointe Orlando and Best Western)

In June 2016, Jay attended a timeshare presentation at the Tradewinds Island Resort on St Pete Beach. In return for a little over two hours of his time, he received a discount on his stay at the Tradewinds, $200 worth of Restaurant.com gift cards, a three night cruise, and two nights in a hotel in a resort town. He cashed in his cruise trip and hotel accommodations during the period December 1-6 of 2016, getting a three-night cruise on the Carnival Valor to Nassau and back, followed by two nights in Orlando at the Rosen Inn Pointe Orlando on International Drive. He added one more night at a Best Western, in the same area, so there were three full days experiencing Orlando. Jay invited his Mom along for the adventure and together they had fun on the cruise ship and in Orlando.

On December 1 they arrived in Port Canaveral early to leave their car at an off-site parking facility before checking in. Then it was nice that they got to experience some perks in the boarding process, like not having to wait in long lines and having a very personalized check-in. Once on board, it was nice to find their was on deck six as opposed to one of very lower decks, but Jay and his Mom got to experience perhaps one of the smallest cabins on the ship, for example, the cabin could only accommodate bunkbeds. But that worked well enough for them as they only used the cabin to sleep. Yes, they did with the buffet right away. And they did take a mini tour of the ship before having to report for the Lifeboat Drill, which wasn't too unpleasant. Afterwards they found a very good place in the front of the ship to watch as the ship pulled away from the dock, down the canal leading to the ocean, and turned south to follow the coast towards Nassau. In Nassau they explored the downtown area and took a river taxi over to Paradise Island where they walked over to the Atlantis Resort. From there they took a taxi back to the center of town and enjoyed some local eating, experiencing conch fritters. (Please see the pictures of Mom trying the fritters.) On the ship they were attended to nicely in the dining room by an excellent waiter crew and they watched three shows in the ship’s theater, plus two comedy shows in one of the ship’s lounges. And they enjoyed many of the other cruise ship amenities.
