A Perfect Day at Coco Cay

Little Stirrup Cay or CocoCay, Bahamas, is one of the Berry Islands, a collection of cays and small islands and is located approximately 55 miles north of Nassau. It is owned by and used for tourism by Royal Caribbean Cruises exclusively.

The island is less than a mile wide from east to west and less than 200 yards from north to south. The east end is the center of recreational activities with beaches fronting a coral basin where manatee, rays, and numerous fish can be seen. Nature trails run the entire length and width of the island. There is a rocky inlet on the north side of the island large that cruise ship tenders used to operate from.

Up to 2018 Coco Cay activities available to guests include swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing, scuba diving, and WaveRunner piloting. But the cruise line put a ton of money into the island to include building a cruise dock (no more tendering in) and creating what it calls its Perfect Day at CocoCay. When we were there, many of the new features were complete such as the Thrill WaterparkTM, the Zip Line, Splashaway Bay aqua park, Up, Up and Away helium balloon, the Oasis Lagoon freshwater pool, a snorkeling area, and more.

Most of the experiences at Perfect Day at CocoCay are complimentary, and there are plenty of free beach chairs and beachside activities — not to mention five new complimentary dining venues located throughout the island. Some of the attractions, like Thrill WaterparkTM, the Zip Line, and Up, Up and Away helium balloon, are available for a charge.

Our group mostly opted for the fresh water pool that served adult beverages that came with one’s beverage card, if you had elected to purchase one for the cruise. Nice water, a swim up bar, “free” adult beverages, fun music, and great times with each other – what’s not to like?
