Sandpiper ResortSt. Petersburg BeachAugust 1-3, 2008 Tradewinds was very good. We were at the Tradewinds Sandpiper, which is about 150 yards north on the beach from the main Tradewinds place, the Island Grande. They had a nice pool and plenty of pool tools like floats. The beach also had cabanas: wooden benches with mats and an accordion top that would provide shade from the sun. The weather was great. The room was a double, like two connecting one-bedroom places but better as the wall between the two was mostly opened. On one side was a full kitchen and a dining table that seated six. The other side had the TV and a sleeper sofa (for Anne) and some chairs. Each bedroom had its own TV. There was a continental breakfast each morning. The water was warm and nice. There were some rays swimming about: found one baby on the beach and returned it to the water and saw two swim by in the water that had a wingspan of about 20". Freaked Sandra out, and a bit for Anne, too. But no one on the whole beach accidentally stepped on one and got stung, to our knowledge. It didn't keep most of us out of the water. The Island Grande had a giant inflatable slide set up on the beach: $4 for one trip down or $35 for the day. Maybe next time. Played bocce ball, built sand castles, flew our kite, hit balls back and forth with the paddles. Got another 100 pictures of Seth, Savanah and Sydney feeding the seagulls. For just a 2-day visit we brought our own food. Worked out well.
