Our Canadian Train Trip

Vancouver to Toronto
March 20-31, 2016

The last car on the train was exclusively for passengers on a train tour (the first half of the train was for "regular" passengers using the train to get from major city to major city.) This car - in the front bottom half - had a bar where drinks were available and also small snacks. The back half of the car had a lounge area where one could chat with fellow passengers or simply enjoy the passing countryside. The front top half was an observation car where one could get even better views of the Canadian mountains and plains.

Our trip included great meals in the dining car, wonderful views from the observation car, and interesting conversations with our Canadian traveling companions - most of whom had a more liberal view of the world than us so in certain areas we had to tread lightly. To add interest on the trip, generally each day one of the conductors would give a small presentation focusing on the countryside we were traveling through and its history.

Our first stop was in the town of Jasper in the Canadian Rockies. We got off the train to spend the day and night there. The town of Jasper is actually within a Canadian National Park so the town's boundaries are fixed.
