Investiture of Judge Raul A. Cuervo

Miami-Dade County Courthouse
September 20, 2019

From the news: On October 5, 2018, Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of Raul A. Cuervo to the Miami-Dade County Court. Cuervo, 63, of Miami, is an attorney and shareholder at Carlton, Fields, Jorden, Burt, P.A. While at Carlton Fields he handled insurance, class action, and commercial litigation.

Judge Cuervo began practicing from the bench in November 2018 and his Investiture Service on September 20 represented his formal inculcation into the judicial ranks.

Judge Cuervo served in other law firms prior to moving to Carlton Fields; and prior to law school he served his country honorably as a Public Affairs Specialist in the 317th Combat Engineer Battalion in Germany. His wife Lynn served in a similar capacity with a nearby signal battalion. Public affairs jobs in most units are not normally associated with running all over the countryside for 96 straight hours on grueling exercises with constant challenges and an overload of work (to test endurance), but Raul drew the "short straw" and was assigned to such a unit, where he excelled and displayed the character then that would lead him to his current position today.
