There was a function at Buchanan Church that involved dressing up, so Fred and Joyce went as Sonny and Cher, including dressing the parts. 
This did not happen spontaneously, as Fred was adamant that he would not participate in anything so silly.
But Joyce had her way. She made a number of props that complemented their lip syncing the words to "I've Got You Babe" and "The Beat Goes On." They were the hit of the function and it was probably one of the best days of their lives. The act was especially funny due to the props that Joyce made, but it turned out that Fred wasn't that good memorizing the words so he carried a lyrics "cheat sheet" with him, and the sight of Fred trying to sneak peeks at his sheet while carrying on the act added to its humor.
Fred and Joyce as Sonny and Cher were required participants at a number of following functions to include two hospitals in the St Pete area, and they continued to have a great time and to be a hit everywhere they performed.
