Sara Duke's Wedding

Over the weekend of 28-30 April I flew up to Asheville, NC, to help celebrate the wedding of Sara and Blair. Sara's dad, Dave, and I were in the same Army unit in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and our families maintained contact for over 40 years.

The wedding was on the grounds of the Biltmore Estate and it was a marvelous event. On Friday evening there was "An evening with Frank Sinatra" party that included food and drink and dancing and playing casino games for fun.

Saturday there was time for a swim and a tour of the 300-room Biltmore House constructed in 1894 by George Vanderbilt and also an opportunity for some wine tasting.

The wedding and reception that evening were on the Biltmore House grounds. The bride arrived in a horse-drawn carriage; the weather was perfect, the reception began with a fireworks show, the food and beverages were excellent, and the band helped fill the dance floor.

The next day there was a Farewell Brunch in downtown Asheville and it was also excellent. After the brunch I got to spend three hours with Pam and Dave Duke "catching up."

A fine weekend.
