| A four-night cruise with oceanview cabin for $139 plus taxes and fees? No, we couldn't resist. So we abandoned family and friends and took off for the fun. We tried off-site parking that worked well and surely beat the $15/day port parking. And we arrived early so we could send out camera pictures of us living the good life. The first stop was CocoCay, advertised as Royal Caribbean's private island. We wondered how to fill a whole day at the beach, but with snorkeling, touring the island, enjoying the ship-provided picnic lunch, and watching some silly games we occupied our time nicely, thank you. The next day was Nassau and we certainly got around the town - mostly by foot. First we went east past Junkanoo (public) Beach and Fort Charlotte to Ardastra Gardens Zoo and Conservation Centre, known for its famous pink marching flamingos. Feeding the parrots with apple slices was a fun event there. Then, going back, we swung through Arawak Cay for some conch fritters to go, and ate them at a bench overlooking the beach. After that it was back through town in the other direction, where we walked the Queen's Staircase and visited Fort Fincastle where the views of the city were pretty good. Then it was a brief city bus ride the the bridge leading to Paradise Island. We walked over the bridge and onto the Atlantis property, though most of the sites were closed to us because we weren't guests and didn't have one of their wri$tband$ on. We did, however, find the public beach and had a nice swim, and then we went back to the ship by way of the water taxi. Thursday was a day at sea and we read and watched the various games and shows. We also participated in another Royal Caribbean Make-a-Wish Foundation walkathon - three whole laps around the sports deck. We had a flat tire on the way home, which was bad, but better that a flat on the way there. We got home shortly after noon and had to order Chinese food for lunch. Hey, it takes a while to come back to reality after all that buffet food. | ||
